Ultraformer HIFU: What It Is, III vs MPT, and How It Compares

Ultraformer is one of the most widely used HIFU platforms in Asia. Here is what the device actually is, what changed between generations, and what still matters more than the machine.

What Ultraformer actually is

Ultraformer is a branded high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) platform, manufactured by Classys and used widely across Asian aesthetic practice. Like every legitimate device in the HIFU family, it focuses ultrasound energy at precise depths beneath the skin — creating small thermal coagulation points that trigger new collagen over the following months. The physics and the biology are the HIFU standard; the brand describes a particular implementation of them.

The platform's practical signature is its cartridge system: interchangeable transducers set to different depths and zone sizes, letting the operator move between the SMAS-depth work at 4.5 mm, mid-dermal firming at 3.0 mm, and superficial tightening at 1.5 mm — plus finer cartridges for smaller zones. What treatment your face receives depends on which cartridges are used where, and that is a planning decision, not a device feature.

Ultraformer III vs MPT: what actually changed

Ultraformer III is the generation most clinics deployed through the early 2020s — a multi-depth, dot-delivery HIFU machine with a broad cartridge range. The MPT generation ('micro pulsed technology') followed, marketed primarily on delivery refinements: faster shot speed, a pulsed delivery mode designed to feel gentler, and additional cartridge options.

Those are genuine engineering updates — sessions can run quicker and feel more comfortable — but they refine how energy is delivered rather than changing what the treatment biologically does. New collagen still takes the same weeks to form; candidacy still decides whether the result satisfies. A well-mapped treatment on a III is a better purchase than a poorly mapped one on an MPT.

— Comparison

Ultraformer III vs MPT, practically

Delivery

Ultraformer III
Dot-based shots along mapped lines
Ultraformer MPT
Adds micro-pulsed continuous delivery modes

Session feel

Ultraformer III
Standard HIFU sensation — warmth with deeper prickling
Ultraformer MPT
Marketed as gentler and faster; sensation still real

Depths

Ultraformer III
Multi-depth cartridges (commonly 1.5 / 3.0 / 4.5 mm for face)
Ultraformer MPT
Similar depth coverage with expanded cartridge options

Biology

Ultraformer III
Thermal coagulation points → new collagen over 2–3 months
Ultraformer MPT
Identical mechanism — the timeline does not change

What decides your result

Ultraformer III
Candidacy, mapping, depths, line counts
Ultraformer MPT
The same — generation refines delivery, not selection

Ultraformer vs Ultherapy: the comparison people actually mean

When patients compare Ultraformer with Ultherapy, they are comparing two branded implementations of the same focused-ultrasound mechanism. Ultherapy's distinguishing feature is real-time imaging — the operator sees the tissue layer being treated. Ultraformer's practical strengths are its cartridge flexibility, session speed and typically lower session cost, with placement relying on anatomical mapping rather than live imaging.

Neither is universally superior. Imaging adds placement confidence; skilled mapping achieves accurate placement without it. The deciding variables remain the ones no device supplies: whether you are a good candidate, and how well your treatment is planned. Our comparison of HIFU and Ultherapy covers this in more depth.

Ultraformer price: what actually drives the number

Searches like 'Ultraformer 3 price' expect a menu number, but Ultraformer sessions are priced the way all serious HIFU is priced: by plan. The zones covered (jawline only versus full face and under-chin), the number of treatment lines, the depths and cartridges used, and who plans and performs the session all move the quote far more than the device generation does.

A low headline price on any branded device usually means fewer lines, fewer zones or no doctor involvement — the brand name on the machine does not protect the plan behind it. DrPlus quotes after a doctor-led assessment, in writing via WhatsApp, with no obligation to proceed.

So does it matter that a clinic uses Ultraformer?

It tells you something useful — the clinic runs a recognised, widely supported HIFU platform with a proper cartridge range. It does not tell you the two things your result depends on: whether HIFU suits your face at all, and how well your treatment will be mapped. Those come from the consultation.

At DrPlus, HIFU for the face and neck is planned by a doctor after a private assessment. Ask us what platform and protocol would be used for your plan — and expect the honest counter-question first: whether focused ultrasound is the right tool for your laxity at all.

Common questions

Ultraformer is a branded HIFU device — high-intensity focused ultrasound delivered through interchangeable multi-depth cartridges. It is not a different technology from HIFU; it is one of the most widely used implementations of it, particularly in Asian aesthetic practice.

MPT is the newer generation, adding micro-pulsed delivery modes, faster shot speeds and expanded cartridge options — refinements aimed at comfort and session time. The collagen-stimulating mechanism and the results timeline are unchanged. Planning quality matters more than which generation treats you.

They are different implementations of the same focused-ultrasound mechanism. Ultherapy adds real-time imaging of the treated layer at a premium cost; Ultraformer offers cartridge flexibility and speed with placement guided by anatomical mapping. Neither is universally superior — candidacy and treatment planning decide outcomes on both.

It depends on the plan, not the brand: zones covered, treatment line counts, cartridge depths used, and who plans and performs the session. DrPlus does not publish prices — after a doctor-led assessment you receive a personalised written quote via WhatsApp, with no obligation to proceed.

The same as HIFU generally: the visible result develops over two to three months as new collagen forms, and most patients maintain it with a session roughly once a year. Age, skin quality and lifestyle shape both the response and how long it holds.

Expect the standard HIFU sensation — warmth with intermittent deeper prickling, strongest along the jawline and brow. The MPT generation is marketed as gentler, and pacing and settings manage comfort on any generation. Most patients complete sessions without anaesthesia.

Ultherapy vs HIFU: A Doctor Explains the Real Difference

Ultherapy is not a rival technology to HIFU — it is a branded HIFU device. The real question is what differs in practice, and whether it matters for your face.
