Chin Botox: Smoothing a Dimpled or 'Orange-Peel' Chin

A pebbly or 'orange-peel' chin is caused by an overactive chin muscle, not by volume. This guide explains what chin Botox does — and how it differs from chin filler.

What causes a dimpled chin

The pebbly, 'orange-peel' or dimpled look on some chins comes from the mentalis — the small muscle in the chin. When it's overactive or tense, it bunches the overlying skin into a dimpled texture, sometimes most obvious when speaking or pursing the lips. It's a muscle-driven texture issue, not a sign of lost volume.

How anti-wrinkle injections help

Because the dimpling is muscle-driven, relaxing the mentalis with a small, well-placed dose can smooth the texture and ease the bunching. The chin is a functional area used for speaking and lip movement, so dosing is conservative and precise to keep normal function comfortable.

Results build over days to about two weeks and typically last a few months, like other anti-wrinkle areas.

Chin Botox vs chin filler

These two chin treatments solve different problems. Anti-wrinkle injections relax the muscle to smooth dimpling. Chin filler adds structure to improve projection or balance in profile. They are not interchangeable — and sometimes a plan uses both: relaxing the muscle and adding a little structure.

Which suits your chin?

The right choice depends on what's actually causing your concern — texture (muscle) versus structure (volume) — which a doctor works out in person. If your issue is dimpling, anti-wrinkle injections are usually the relevant tool; if it's projection, filler may be. Our jawline & chin filler page covers the structural side.

At DrPlus in Johor Bahru, the chin is assessed honestly so you treat the actual cause, not the wrong one.

Common questions

An overactive or tense chin muscle (the mentalis) bunches the overlying skin into a pebbled texture. It's a muscle-driven issue, not lost volume — which is why relaxing the muscle can smooth it.

No. Chin Botox relaxes the muscle to smooth dimpling; chin filler adds structure for projection or balance. They solve different problems and are sometimes combined.

The chin is used for speaking and lip movement, so dosing is conservative and precise to keep function comfortable. Your doctor assesses this carefully before treating.

Like other anti-wrinkle areas, results commonly last a few months before gradually fading, varying by individual and dose.
