Lip Flip vs Lip Filler: What's the Difference?
A 'lip flip' and lip filler are often confused, but they're completely different treatments. This guide explains what each does, how long they last, and how to choose.

What a lip flip is
A 'lip flip' uses a very small amount of botulinum toxin placed in the muscle around the upper lip. Relaxing this muscle lets the upper lip roll slightly outward ('flip') when you smile, so a little more of the pink lip shows. It doesn't add any volume — it changes how the existing lip sits. The effect is subtle and, because it uses a tiny dose, relatively short-lived.
What lip filler is
Lip filler uses hyaluronic acid (HA) gel to add volume and shape to the lips themselves. It can enhance fullness, define the border, or improve balance, depending on what's appropriate. Because it adds substance, the change is more noticeable than a lip flip and lasts longer. Lip filler is part of our dermal fillers service.
Side by side
The simplest way to think about it: a lip flip changes how your lip moves and sits; filler changes how much lip there is.

Which is right for you?
If you want a very subtle enhancement and don't want added volume, a lip flip may suit. If you want fuller or more defined lips, filler is the relevant option. Some people combine them. The right choice depends on your goals, your natural lip shape and your budget for maintenance — which a doctor assesses honestly.
At DrPlus in Johor Bahru, lips are planned conservatively as part of a whole-face assessment, and we'll tell you if neither is needed.

Common questions
A lip flip uses a tiny amount of Botox to relax the upper-lip muscle so more lip shows when you smile — no volume added. Lip filler uses hyaluronic acid to add actual volume and shape. They solve different goals.
Lip filler. A lip flip uses a tiny dose and typically lasts only a few weeks to a couple of months, while HA lip filler commonly lasts several months up to around a year.
Sometimes the two are combined, depending on your goals. A doctor assesses whether that's appropriate for your lips during consultation.
A lip flip is more subtle because it doesn't add volume — but 'natural' depends on what you want and on conservative technique. Filler can also look natural when planned carefully. A consultation is the reliable way to choose.
