Dermal fillers are injectable gels — most commonly hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance found naturally in skin — used to restore volume, support contours, and soften lines. HA fillers are gradually broken down by the body, so results are temporary and vary by individual.
Fillers are used across the face: lips, cheeks and midface, chin, jawline, tear troughs (under-eyes), nasolabial folds, and temples. Lip filler is one of the most requested areas, and it's planned the same careful way as any other — your doctor matches the product and placement to your features rather than treating one spot in isolation.
Your consultation starts with a facial assessment: your doctor looks at proportions, volume distribution, and skin quality as a whole. It depends on the product, the area, and how your body breaks the filler down — commonly several months to around two years. Mobile areas like the lips often need topping up sooner than firmer areas such as the chin. Your doctor will give you a realistic range for your specific plan, since longevity varies by individual.

Hyaluronic acid fillers can usually be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed — one reason HA is a popular, reversible choice. Your doctor will discuss this with you as part of planning.
HA fillers have a long track record when injected by trained doctors, and HA can also be dissolved if needed. That said, all injections carry risks — including rare vascular complications — which is why assessment, proper technique, and doctor-led care matter. Risks are explained openly before any treatment.
