Forehead Botox: Frown Lines, 11 Lines & the Glabella

Forehead lines, the vertical '11s' between the brows and the glabella are the most-treated upper-face areas. Here's what anti-wrinkle injections do here — and how to avoid the frozen look.

Three linked areas, one upper face

When people say 'forehead Botox' they usually mean one of three closely related areas. The horizontal lines across the forehead come from the muscle that raises the brows. The vertical '11 lines' (also called the glabella or frown lines) come from the muscles that pull the brows together when you frown. Because these muscles work as a team, treating one affects how the others move — which is why the upper face is planned as a whole.

What treatment does here

Relaxing these muscles softens the lines they create, for a smoother, less tense or less 'angry' resting expression. The frown '11s' in particular often respond well, because they're driven so directly by movement. Forehead lines can be softened too, but here balance matters: the forehead muscle is also what lifts your brows, so it's treated thoughtfully to avoid a heavy look.

Mechanism

Forehead lines

From raising the brows; softened while keeping a natural brow position.

Mechanism

Frown '11s'

From frowning; often respond well, easing a tense resting look.

The area between the brows where the '11 lines' form.

The 'frozen' worry — and how it's avoided

The most common concern about forehead treatment is looking frozen or surprised, or getting a heavy brow. This isn't inherent to the treatment — it comes from over-treating, or from relaxing the forehead lifter too much without balancing the muscles that pull down. Conservative dosing and balanced planning across the upper face are how a natural result is achieved.

A good doctor will sometimes deliberately under-treat the forehead and review, rather than chase perfectly flat skin at the cost of expression. The goal is softer, not still.

Results and longevity

As with anti-wrinkle treatment elsewhere, results build over days to about two weeks and commonly last around three to four months before gradually fading. Deeply etched lines that are visible at rest may soften only partly and can take a couple of treatment cycles to improve, since the skin needs time without constant creasing. Our results and aftercare guide covers the timeline in full.

Is it right for you?

Whether upper-face treatment suits you depends on your brow position, how your muscles move, and your goals. For some people, a low or heavy brow means the forehead should be treated very lightly, if at all. This is precisely the kind of judgement a doctor-led assessment provides — and why a one-size package isn't appropriate.

At DrPlus in Johor Bahru, the upper face is assessed and dosed conservatively for a natural, refreshed result.

Common questions

The '11 lines' are the two vertical lines that form between the brows when you frown — named for their resemblance to the number 11. The area is also called the glabella. They're driven directly by movement, so they often respond well to anti-wrinkle injections.

Not with conservative, balanced dosing. A frozen or heavy-brow look comes from over-treatment or poor technique. A good doctor treats lightly, balances the upper-face muscles, and reviews — aiming for softer, not still.

The forehead lifter and the frown muscles work as a team, so treating one affects the others. Planning the upper face as a whole keeps the brow balanced and the result natural.

Commonly around three to four months before gradually fading, varying by individual and dose. Deeply etched static lines may improve only partly and can take a couple of cycles to soften.
