PN versus PDRN: why the terms are confusing

Polynucleotides (PN) are purified chains of DNA fragments used in some injectable products intended to support skin repair and hydration. PDRN refers to a related mixture of shorter DNA fragments. Online marketing often collapses both into 'salmon DNA injections', which is memorable but medically imprecise.

The label on the actual product matters more than a trend term. Concentration, molecular size, carrier, intended use and injection protocol differ, so evidence for one formulation should not automatically be transferred to another.

Rejuran and Plinest: what can be compared

Rejuran is a polynucleotide product family commonly discussed for texture, fine lines and skin quality. Plinest is another polynucleotide-based product family. They should not be treated as generic equivalents simply because both are associated with PN.

A fair comparison asks which formulation is available and authorised locally, the proposed treatment area, injection technique, course, downtime and evidence relevant to that exact product. Brand recognition alone is not a clinical indication.

What PN or PDRN treatment may address

A doctor may discuss a PN product for selected concerns such as fine texture, crepey skin, superficial fine lines or skin that appears stressed. It does not replace filler for structural volume loss, pigment-specific treatment for melasma, or surgery for significant laxity.

Evidence and response vary by formulation and concern. Phrases such as cell renewal, repair or regeneration should not be understood as a promise to reverse ageing or restore skin to a previous state.

Procedure, downtime and safety

Treatment commonly involves many small injections after cleansing and topical anaesthesia. Temporary raised bumps, redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising may follow. Downtime depends on product, technique, area and individual response.

Active infection, allergy concerns, pregnancy or breastfeeding, certain immune conditions, bleeding risks and previous reactions should be discussed. Seek urgent review for worsening pain, spreading redness, fever, skin colour change, visual symptoms or signs of a severe allergy.

How to choose a PN pathway in Singapore

Choose a licensed clinic where a qualified doctor examines the skin, identifies the exact product and explains its local regulatory status, alternatives and risks. Avoid menus that combine unverified cocktails or promise a fixed result from a package.

The consultation may conclude that Rejuran, another registered booster, skincare, an energy-based treatment or no procedure is preferable. That decision should precede any purchase.

Common questions

They are related DNA-derived materials, but the terms are not strictly interchangeable. PN generally refers to longer polynucleotide chains, while PDRN refers to shorter fractions. The exact product formulation matters.

Rejuran is generally described as a polynucleotide-based injectable. Ask the clinic to identify the exact formulation rather than relying on the broad 'salmon DNA' label.

No. They are distinct product families. Although both enter PN comparisons, formulation, protocol, availability and regulatory status should be checked separately.

There is no universal course. It depends on the exact product, area, concern and response. A doctor should set review points and avoid promising a result from a fixed number.

Selected products may be considered for selected under-eye skin concerns, but eye bags caused by fat prolapse, fluid or structural hollowing need different assessment. The area also requires careful injection planning.

They have known short-term effects and less common complications. Safety depends on product legitimacy, suitability, sterile technique, anatomy knowledge and follow-up; no injectable is risk-free.
