— Who this page is for
When an allergy assessment may help
An allergy assessment may be considered when symptoms suggest a possible allergic or contact reaction. This page explains what a consultation covers — it is not a diagnosis, and not every visit leads to testing.
Recurring rashes or hives
Itchy welts, flares, or rashes that return without a clear cause may warrant a structured medical review.
Persistent itching or swelling
Ongoing itch, localised swelling, or skin reactivity that interferes with daily life should be assessed by a doctor.
Suspected food or product reactions
Symptoms after certain foods, skincare products, metals, fragrances, or other exposures can be reviewed in context.
Nasal or environmental triggers
Sneezing, congestion, or flares linked to dust, pollen, pets, or seasonality may be discussed during assessment.
Unclear or mixed triggers
When symptoms keep returning and the trigger is uncertain, a consultation helps separate allergic from non-allergic causes.
Emergency warning — seek urgent care
Severe breathing difficulty, facial or throat swelling, faintness, or suspected anaphylaxis needs emergency care immediately — not a routine online booking.
— What this involves
What an allergy consultation involves
An allergy consultation starts with your symptoms — when they began, how they look or feel, what makes them better or worse, and whether they follow meals, products, environments, or medicines. The aim is to understand the pattern before deciding whether any testing is useful.
Your doctor reviews medical and exposure history, examines the skin or relevant areas when appropriate, and discusses likely triggers. Testing is recommended only where clinically indicated — many people need advice, avoidance guidance, or another diagnosis pathway rather than a test on the first visit.
Different allergy tests investigate different types of reactions. Where further investigation is appropriate, available options depend on the clinic’s confirmed services and may involve in-clinic testing or laboratory arrangements. A positive result does not automatically prove that an allergen is causing your symptoms; results must be interpreted together with your history. No allergy test is perfectly accurate in isolation.
Before your visit, note when symptoms started, record suspected foods, products, medications, or environmental exposures, and bring photographs of previous reactions where useful. Bring a list of current medications. Do not stop prescribed medication unless a qualified clinician instructs you to. Ask the clinic whether antihistamines need to be paused before any specific test that may later be arranged.
After results or clinical findings are reviewed, next steps may include trigger avoidance, skincare or medical management, follow-up, or referral when appropriate. Treatment recommendations vary between patients.
— Why DrPlus
How allergy care is approached at DrPlus Singapore
Assessment comes first. Testing and management plans are discussed only when they are clinically appropriate for your presentation. Dr Kenneth Lee (MBBCh, Cardiff; GDipFP Dermatology, NUS) provides consultations for skin and general medical concerns as an aesthetic doctor with postgraduate dermatology training — not as a consultant dermatologist.
A physician reviews your symptoms, exposures, and medical history before recommending any investigation or plan.
Where testing may help, the doctor explains what it can and cannot show, including limits of accuracy when results are read alone.
Advice may include avoidance, medical management, follow-up, or referral — not every consultation ends with a test.
Consultations are available at SBF Center in Tanjong Pagar and The Flow Mall at East Coast.

Common questions
That depends on your symptoms, timing, exposures, and examination findings. A doctor decides whether testing is useful and which approach, if any, fits your case. Not every allergy concern requires a test.
Comfort depends on the investigation recommended. Some skin-based tests may cause brief discomfort or temporary itching at the test site; blood sampling involves a standard needle draw. Your doctor will explain what to expect before any test proceeds.
Timing varies by the type of assessment and any tests arranged. A consultation includes history and examination; some investigations give same-visit information while others need laboratory turnaround. Ask the clinic what applies to your plan.
Testing may support investigation of suspected food-related reactions in selected cases, but results must be interpreted with your history. A positive result alone does not prove a food is causing symptoms, and a negative result does not always exclude a problem.
Suspected reactions to skincare, metals, fragrances, or other contact substances can be reviewed in consultation. Whether a specific contact investigation is suitable depends on the reaction pattern and what the clinic can arrange.
No. No allergy test is perfectly accurate in isolation. False positives and false negatives can occur. Results should be interpreted by a doctor alongside symptoms and clinical history.
Some investigations are affected by antihistamines, but you should not stop prescribed medication on your own. Ask the clinic whether any pause is needed for the specific test being considered, and follow clinician advice.
Pricing depends on the consultation, test type, number of allergens assessed, and whether external laboratory services are required. Contact the clinic for current pricing. A written quote is provided before you decide, with no obligation to proceed.
Age suitability depends on the clinical situation and what the clinic can arrange. Contact the Singapore team with the child’s age and symptoms before booking so they can advise whether an assessment here is appropriate or another pathway is needed.
Bring a symptom timeline, a list of suspected triggers, current medications, and photos of previous reactions if available. Product names or ingredient lists for suspected contact reactions are also helpful.
