— How it works

The treatment process

Pigment targeting

Short laser pulses may shatter pigment particles for gradual clearance by the body.

Low thermal footprint

Pico platforms aim to reduce excess heat, which may be relevant for sensitive or melasma-prone skin.

Maintenance & protection

Sun protection and adjunct skincare are essential for lasting clarity.

— Recovery

What to expect after Pico Laser

Recovery varies by individual, treatment intensity, and aftercare adherence. This is a general guide — your doctor will provide specific instructions.

  1. Same day

Mild redness or warmth is common. SPF reapplied before leaving the clinic. Avoid heat and exercise for the rest of the day.

  2. Day 1–2

Treated spots may briefly darken before fading. Skin may feel slightly dry. Use gentle cleanser and bland moisturiser.

  3. Week 1–2

Pigment gradually flakes off or lightens. Resume routine skincare as advised. Avoid actives that irritate the skin.

  4. Ongoing

Pigment improvement develops across the full session series. Daily SPF and maintenance topicals support and prolong the result.

Your doctor will provide a tailored aftercare guide. If you have questions about downtime or planning around an event, ask during your consultation.

— FAQ

Pico Laser FAQ

Melasma is chronic and influenced by hormones and sun exposure. Pico laser may help lighten pigmentation, but maintenance, sun protection, and supportive skincare are ongoing. Recurrence is possible without consistent care. Results vary.

Often 4–8 sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart, depending on pigment type and depth. Your doctor will monitor progress and adjust spacing or settings between sessions.

When performed by an experienced physician with appropriate settings, pico laser is commonly used on Asian skin types. Careful assessment and settings reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which is more common in darker skin tones.

We see patients at SBF Center, 160 Robinson Road #03-10, in the Tanjong Pagar CBD (call +65 8851 9547), The Flow Mall, 66 East Coast Road #03-05, in Katong on the East Coast (call +65 8857 4917), and Novena Medical Centre, 10 Sinaran Drive #10-30, in Novena (call +65 8851 9505). All three clinics offer the same doctor-led consultations, so you can choose whichever location is more convenient.

SBF Center on Robinson Road is about a three-minute walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT (East–West Line) in the CBD, The Flow Mall on East Coast Road in Katong is a short walk from Marine Parade MRT on the Thomson–East Coast Line, and Novena Medical Centre on Sinaran Drive is a short sheltered walk from Novena MRT on the North–South Line. If you drive, all three buildings have carparks, with further public parking nearby.

Most patients return to their routine the same day. You may see mild redness for a few hours and treated spots may temporarily darken before fading. Strict daily SPF is essential during the treatment course.

Keep the skin gentle and hydrated, use a bland moisturiser, and apply broad-spectrum SPF every day. Avoid picking flaking skin, harsh actives, and heat (saunas, vigorous exercise) for the first day or two. Your doctor will provide written aftercare specific to your settings.

Some early brightening is common after a single session, and lighter sun spots may visibly lift. Deeper or hormonal pigmentation usually needs the full series, so one session is a start rather than the whole result. Results vary by individual.

Some pigmentation — particularly melasma and sun-induced pigment — has a tendency to recur, especially with sun exposure, hormonal triggers, or inconsistent SPF. Your doctor will discuss realistic maintenance and rebound risk before treatment.

Yes. Pico laser is often planned alongside pigment-safe topical regimens, gentle peels for surface renewal, and chemical peels for clarity when appropriate. Your doctor will sequence the plan based on pigment behaviour.

Pigment fading is gradual across a series. Some patients notice changes within the first few sessions; others need the full course before improvement becomes obvious. Consistency and sun protection materially influence outcomes.

Pico laser is priced as a doctor-planned course rather than a single session, so the cost depends on your pigment type, the treatment area, and how many sessions your skin realistically needs. We do not publish prices; after diagnosis your doctor gives you a personalised, written quote with no obligation to proceed. WhatsApp us a photo of your pigmentation and we can usually explain what your course would involve within minutes.
