How stretch mark treatment works
A stretch mark forms when skin stretches faster than its collagen and elastin can adapt — the dermis tears and heals as a linear scar. Newer marks look red or purple because inflammation is still active; over time they mature into pale, slightly sunken lines. Because they are true dermal scars, surface creams rarely change them meaningfully.
